Its time to make things uncomfortable. I hate to call out my fellow broadcasters as much as the next guy, but this is inexcusable.
This weekend while driving in my car, I heard no less than 3 radio hosts reference an article that alleged that Kanye West made some comments boasting that he is going to be bigger than Nelson Mandela. Sounds far fetched, sure, but 3 people on the radio said it with alluding to it be false, so it must be true, right? Wrong!!! It was later exposed as a hoax of sorts…of sorts because it was actually never represented as the truth….check out the website is was on (cue face-palming). An honest mistake? Sure. But to me it just comes off as lazy show prepping. We have to remember that there are people out there who trust us every word we say out there, and that’s a pretty heavy responsibility. Spend some time, fact check your bits, your listeners deserve it.
