Good news for all of my terrestrial radio friends, it doesn’t look like iTunes apparently isn’t doing what they originally thought it would do, ie. sell records. According to this report, sales have actually gone down on radio singles since the launch. Of course the numbers don’t carry that much weight given the recent purchasing patterns, but you have to wonder how much longer Apple will pump money into it if it isn’t affecting sales at all.
In other iTunes Radio, they made a huge sales-team acquisition today from America’s second largest radio company, Cumulus. Perhaps this means that they are hoping that iTunes radio won’t just be a marketing tool, but an actual money-maker within itself.
Never the less, taking in all the facts, it doesn’t look like iTunes radio will be stealing any of our jobs…yet.
