A Step Forward: England Determines A Date For Digital Switch-Over

Something that is talked about frequently in the radio business is the eventual switch over to the digital band. In Canada, we’ve already switched our TVs over  (seemingly painlessly), but as far as the radio goes, it doesn’t seem like any progress has been made on that front in a long time.

Britain on the other hand, is starting to make serious strides forward with digital radio (including the announcement of a complete switch-over happening in the very near future), but not without some issues…While the audio quality would be better, many radios in cars are strictly analogue, making them useless. Coverage is incredibly spotty in the countryside, and leaving them behind is not an option.

It’s apparently a very contentious issue (for good reason),  but the most optimistic are hoping for a changeover be 2018. We shall see, and keep an eye on this.
