Cult Radio Hero Signs Off: Tom Scharpling Retires “The Best Show”

After 13 years on air, Tom Scharpling has retired “The Best Show On WFMU”. While perhaps there aren’t a tonne of people who have heard of it (broadcasted exclusively on an independent community station in Jersey), those who loved it, loved it a lot, elevating the show to cult status. The show that sported the slogan: “three hours of mirth, music, and mayhem”, featured unorthodox humour, hilarious call-ins and music was instantly popular and boasts people streaming episodes from literally all around the globe.

Judging by the online tributes, the show will be missed, and while its good to see that radio is still a medium that connects to people, its sad to see one of the best leave.
